Kuwait should adopt a neutral stand in case of US-Iran war Use long-range ammunition to attack: KJA
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: Kuwait should adopt a neutral and wise stand in case of face-off between Iran and the US, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting some Kuwaiti politicians and experts.
Media Consultant at Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA) and political scientist Dr Ayed Al-Muna’e said Kuwait must be neutral, careful and wise in dealing with the situation. He opined the country should not allow the use of its territories as a launching pad for any attack on Iran. He argued the US does not need Kuwait to attack Iran, since it has no intention to use land troops.
Al-Muna’e explained the US can use long-range ammunition to carry out the attack, warning that if Iran hits the US installations in Kuwait, Qatar or United Arab Emirates (UAE), this is tantamount to breaching the sovereignty of the concerned country.
He asserted the presence of the US in these countries is based on agreements deemed beneficial to the GCC and Iran.
“The US came to protect the region against Saddam Hussein and his cohorts in the West, so Iran has also gained from this presence,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Political Science Professor at Kuwait University (KU) Dr Abdullah Al-Ghanim advised Kuwait to continue its objective policy in case of a face-off between Iran and the US. He believes this is the best way for Kuwait to avoid attack from any of the two nations.
He added Kuwait will maintain strong ties with Iran and the US, as clearly manifested in the country’s clamor for political resolution without any military attack on Iran which, in turn, must respect the international resolutions.
Former lawmaker Ahmad Al-Mulaifi contended Kuwait is not part of the US-Iran row, just like any other GCC nation, so the country should be neutral in case of a confrontation between the two.
He said Kuwait has always been calling for peaceful resolutions, while advising Iran to limit the use of nuclear energy for peaceful domestic purposes.
He stressed the region needs a break from incessant wars and tension, warning that any attack against Iran will have an adverse effect on the entire region.
