‘Promote religious tolerance, good values’ Politicians urged to refrain from issuing irrelevant statements

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: Politicians should refrain from issuing irrelevant statements which might undermine national unity, while the executive and legislative authorities must regard the holy month of Ramadan as the beginning of a stronger coordination between them in the interest of the nation, says MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Al-Muwaizri confirmed he has forwarded cables of congratulations to HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Cabinet members, Parliament Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi, lawmakers, the citizens and residents in Kuwait, as well as the Arab and Islamic nations on the occasion of Ramadan.

Al-Muwaizri also urged the government and private television channels to efficiently play their role in promoting religious tolerance and good values in the Kuwaiti society. He called on the media to be responsible to prevent the spread of immoral publications or shows and focus only on Islamic teachings. He pointed out such steps should be taken throughout the year, not only during Ramadan.
On the rising prices of commodities during Ramadan, Al-Muwaizri appealed to the ministries of Commerce and Social Affairs to closely monitor the markets, regulate the prices of goods, and punish the greedy traders, who usually take advantage of the occasion to increase the prices of basic commodities.

In another development, Al-Muwaizri admitted he was surprised when the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs issued a decision to stop the collection of donations in mosques during the holy month. He contended Kuwaitis have been helping the needy since time immemorial, even before the discovery of oil. He asserted the ministry should have regulated procedures for the collection of donations, similar to the measures taken last year.
