Popular Labor Bloc allegedly gears up for dramatic changes Bloc set to meet to specify its direction, agenda

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: The Popular Labor Bloc is allegedly standing at a crossroads as it gears up for dramatic changes in the next legislative round, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources. Sources confirmed the bloc will meet next week to specify its direction and agenda for the next round. Sources said there will be structural changes for the bloc to either enter the government ‘club’ or end up in a state of disintegration and division.

Sources pointed out the latest developments are directly related to the disagreements among the bloc’s members in the previous legislative round, particularly lawmaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun’s refusal to support MP Ali Al-Deqbasi’s plan to grill HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah over the rising pollution levels in Umm Al-Haiman, his vote in favor of the privatization law, and his insistence on the approval of the defaulters fund bill, while the other lawmakers have been pushing for the approval of a proposal on ‘purchasing’ loan interests.

Sources added bloc is expected to announce its official stand on calls to hold an emergency parliamentary session to lay down a mechanism for financing the implementation of the development plan during the meeting.
