Panel report cites corruption, chaos in various govt sectors ‘Bloc working to dissolve National Assembly’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: The Committee for Following-Up Government Performance, in its report submitted to the Cabinet, confirmed that there is corruption and chaos in various government sectors, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The committee said the government’s corruption-fighting mechanism was slow and that it is affecting the performance and efficiency of the public sector.
Ministerial sources said the committee discovered during its field visits that most ministries are heavily overstaffed which is again affecting productivity and is causing masked unemployment.
Sources said some authorities are suffering due to lack of cooperation from its leaders who use their position to serve their personal interests. “Many ministries did not even provide accurate information about financial and administrative positions due to some leaders who are keen on keeping such data out of bounds,” they added.
The committee noticed that things get done in most government authorities through intermediation or wasta and there is inequality and injustice due to this.
The committee disclosed that the government’s budget is being misused and it noticed financial and administrative violations in the Health, Social Affairs and Labor and Electricity and Water ministries.
The government, meanwhile, instructed legal authorities to cooperate with Audit Bureau to control such malpractices.
Sources stressed that the committee is keen on disclosing and controlling corruption in all government sectors and organizations.
Meanwhile, a certain parliamentary bloc is working on a special agenda and is trying hard to either get the National Assembly dissolved constitutionally or oust the government, parliamentary sources told Al-Shahed daily.
The bloc realized that the current Assembly is fully supporting the government “which they consider a threat to their stances in the Parliament and reputations before their constituents,” said sources.
The bloc is leading a movement that opposes the Assembly and is planning to get it dissolved in cooperation with some people inside and outside the Assembly, they added.
Sources further said preparations for interpellations are taking place and these can create tension between the two authorities, especially because some issues have sectarian and discriminative aspects which can create a rift between members of the ‘economic family’ and the ruling family.
