PhD KD 1,500, thesis for 1,000 as police hunt Egyptian woman

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: Police are looking for an Egyptian woman, identified only as Gh and believed to be the wife of media photographer for allegedly writing thesis for scores of Kuwaitis and citizens of other Arab states. The woman also claimed she holds a PhD in an unidentified subject and works for the Kuwait University, reports Al-Dar daily.
According to the daily about 230 students are registered in her office at an unidentified location to write the thesis for them or to get PhD degrees. The daily quoting sources said the woman charged between KD 1,000 each to write thesis on behalf of students and KD 1,500 for a PhD degree.
When inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry acting on information raided her office, they discovered all the employees were residence law violators including the manager of the office who is working for a trading company and the woman allegedly worked as a representative of an unidentified company.
Among the woman’s victims are the daughter of a well-known artist, head of a section in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and head of a section of the Zakat House.
It has also been reported the woman was working in cooperation with some professors from the Kuwait University and that the theses were written by experts in Egypt for a few Kuwaiti dinars. The PhD degrees are also believed to be a fake.
