MP queries on suspension of Kuwaiti students in Bahrain Sheikh Fahd to brief panel on details of funding draft bill KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: MP Mohammed Hayef has forwarded questions to Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud on the suspension of Kuwaiti students enrolled in the doctorate program of the Gulf University in Bahrain, since the decision was issued more than seven months ago and the Ministry of Higher Education sent these students to the university, reports Alam Al-Yawm daily.
Wondering why Al-Humoud has not taken any action to address the issue, Hayef pointed out these students enrolled at the university prior to the suspension of its accreditation by Kuwait.
He asked the minister to clarify the issue, particularly the fate of students who graduated and are waiting for their academic certificates. He argued the minister should have taken the necessary steps to address the problem due to its impact on the future of these students.
“Our children expect to be rewarded for their diligence in completing their studies but their future seems to be hanging in the balance due to the minister’s failure to address the problem. Al-Humoud must immediately take the required steps to resolve the issue,” Hayef concluded.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary Financial and Economic Affairs Committee has reached an agreement with Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs and State Minister for Housing and Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah on the proposed funding of gigantic development projects, reports Al-Anba daily quoting MP Khalid Al-Sultan.
Al-Sultan confirmed the minister will brief the panel on the details of the funding draft bill on Sunday. He pointed out there is no need for any emergency meeting, since the funding will not take place now. He suggested the country should raise 50 percent of the fund or more depending on the need for making profits. He said the committee has already agreed with the government on the proposal but it has yet to prepare the draft.
On the other hand, Defense and Interior Committee Rapporteur MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri announced the panel will meet again by the end of this week to discuss allegations that the Ministry of Interior has released two criminals — one who impersonated a medical practitioner and the other was involved in a number of drug-related cases.
Al-Muwaizri confirmed the panel will invite the interior minister and other relevant personalities from the Parliament or government to the meeting.
