40,000 ministry workers data missing ‘Labor, Care sectors fail to check employees ‘documents’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The automation system has exposed the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry to a fresh scandal, after the recent discovery of 40,000 workers without data or registration with the ministry, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The daily quoting a reliable source revealed their data were missing from the previous paper system, which was not easy to monitor.
He said certain employees at the labor departments seized the opportunity to falsify files by canceling the names of some workers, and replacing them with new work permits for fresh recruits.
Those employees charge about KD 1000 per transaction. In the meantime, the Capital Labor Department has 13,000 of such missing names due to misdeeds carried out by the employees.
He stressed that 15,000 of the missing names belong to the Farwaniya Department, while Hawalli accounts for about 4,000, indicating the remaining numbers belong to Jahra and Ahmadi sectors.
Falsification of documents is spread across all six governorates of the country. Therefore, the ministry has commenced investigations in that regard, while the suspects will be referred to the Public Prosecution, the source noted.
The companies, which provide services to the social care homes affiliated to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, have allegedly employed workers not under their sponsorship and manipulated the data of some employees, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a reliable source.
Accusing the Labor and Care sectors of failure to thoroughly check the documents of the employees in these companies, the source disclosed some of the workers have no valid residence permits, while others are under the sponsorship of people outside the companies. He said both sectors have not regulated work procedures in these companies, which have gone too far in violating the law and mechanism for awarding tenders for providing services at the social care homes. He added the companies’ violations include non-compliance with the National Manpower Support Law.
The source stated the sectors have been evading questions on the recruitment of the workers without the official documents, while the Care Sector has refused to follow up the situation in the companies and the Labor Sector has neglected its duty in regulating work procedures in the companies to ensure strict compliance with the law. He also found it strange that the companies have passed through the labor administration and private tenders for the social care homes without completing the necessary procedures.
