Ministry bans charity inspectors
KUWAIT CITY, July 27: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has issued a decision on the suspension of the activities of inspection teams tasked to monitor the activities of charity societies during Ramadan in line with the directive of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), banning the formation of teams with more than five members, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting Director of Charity Societies Sector Ahmad Al-Sane.
“In spite of the numerous violations registered by the inspection teams against the charity societies for non-compliance with the regulations on the collection of cash donations during Ramadan last year, these societies will not be subjected to any supervision this year. Only three employees from the department will monitor the activities of 11 charity societies, 250 subcommittees and 70 donor organizations,” Al-Sane lamented.
Al-Sane said the department had earlier sought the assistance of other institutions like the ministries of Interior and Commerce, as well as Kuwait Municipality, but this is no longer possible since the number of inspection team members has been limited to three as per the instructions of the CSC.
He added the ministry has been holding a series of meetings with the charity organizations to lay down an effective mechanism for the collection of cash donations, especially during Ramadan.
