MEW official urges consumers to pay their electricity, water bills Ministry to rule on meter readers’ salary system

KUWAIT CITY, July 26: Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Engineer Jassem Allenghawi has urged consumers to cooperate with the ministry and pay their bills, reports Al-Nahar daily.

He stressed that paying the bills promptly will enable consumers to enjoy water and electricity services, indicating consumers could make the payment directly to the consumer affairs centers across the regions or online by the website .

In the meantime, Allenghawi disclosed the ministry is on the verge of inserting a clause to oblige companies to pay the salaries of their meter readers at the appropriate time, otherwise the ministry will not pay financial obligations to such companies.  He said the ministry will verify the payment of salaries through the bank accounts of the employees before honoring financial commitments to the companies.
He stated the step is necessary to protect the rights of employees and avert protests that may affect the smooth running of the ministry.
