Three held in drug trafficking; Famous Kuwaiti comedian beaten Cannon blast hurts bedoun
KUWAIT CITY, July 25: Anti-narcotics officers have arrested two Iranians and an Indian for trading in opium.
Acting on a tip-off, Director General of the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) Major General Ahmad Al-Khalifa formed a team of securitymen tasked to put a suspected Iranian drug dealer under surveillance. The team arranged an entrapment after obtaining an arrest and search warrant from the Public Prosecution. They sent an undercover agent to purchase 250 grams of opium worth KD 500 from the suspect, who was arrested upon completion of the bogus transaction.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted the crime and guided police to the flat of his accomplice — another Iranian. Police raided the latter’s apartment in Hawally but they did not find anything, so they questioned him again until he led them to an abandoned vehicle where they found seven kilos of opium.
The suspects also told police that they purchased the opium from an Indian driver, who allegedly smuggles drugs from Iraq. When he was arrested, the Indian confessed that he purchased 10 kilograms of opium from Iraq recently and he is trading in drugs on behalf of an inmate at the Central Jail.
The three suspects were referred to the concerned security department for prosecution, and police have started taking the necessary procedures to question the inmate to verify the Indian’s claim.
Blast hurts bedoun: A bedoun suffered from multiple injuries recently when a cannon exploded in Umm Al-Guwati while he was trying to cut some of its parts that he intended to sell to scrap steel traders, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Sources revealed the bedoun was trying to steal parts of the cannon but it exploded, causing injuries in different parts of his body. Sources said the cannon is believed to be part of the weapons left by the defeated Iraqi Army during the invasion of Kuwait. They pointed out the incident also uncovered some aspects of public funds embezzlement and messing with the lives of citizens and residents as the company in charge of disposing the radioactive substances has failed to carry out its task efficiently.
Sources added the bedoun was taken to a nearby hospital but he managed to escape later even if he is said to be in a critical condition due to his exposure to the radioactive substances.
Police have started investigations to look for the suspect, while the concerned authorities have been alerted on the need to dispose the weapons and substances properly to avoid any disaster in the future.
