Sources say the victim earlier lodged a breach of trust complaint against the three suspects at Salmiya Police Station. The complainant said he met a Jordanian businessman who convinced him to set up an electronics company in Iraq with a capital of KD 5 million. It was then decided that the businessman will go to an Asian country to buy some equipment with the complainant’s share of the capital, which was KD 250,000. The businessman said he will go to Iraq from the Asian country to make the arrangements. Shortly after, the complainant received a call from a person speaking in Iraqi dialect claiming that the businessman was kidnapped by a gang and that it will release him if a sum of KD 30,000 was paid in ransom.
After the complainant paid the sum, he received another call, saying the gang needs another KD 20,000 and that a person will come to collect the sum. At this juncture, the complainant decided to file a police complaint. Policemen advised him to pretend to comply with the gang’s wish and swooped on the person who came to collect the money at Salmiya market.
During investigations, the culprit admitted the charges and disclosed the whereabouts of the businessman.

Most of the cases filed by the victims are against companies for selling booking in their names illusory chalets and taking advance payment. The daily added police interrogations led to the arrest of the leader of the gang — the Iraqi man.

Friend’s help in vain: Police have detained for interrogation a lieutenant working for the Ministry of Interior for allegedly attempting to help a citizen, who has a travel ban on him, to leave the country, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. Reports show the man is banned for travel because there are many cases against him.
According to reports the lieutenant, believed to be the friend of the suspect, took his passport and got it stamped but did not enter the information into the computer.
However, the suspect’s former wife who knew about his travel plans had informed the authorities in advance because he owes her money and the latter put the man under surveillance and caught him red-handed as he was about to make his exit.
