MoH extends contracts of laborers for three more months Ministry to adopt new mechanism to pay salaries of new workers KUWAIT CITY, July 22: The employment contracts of laborers currently assigned at the Ministry of Health have been extended for three more months, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting head of the Public Services Administration at the ministry Abdulrazzak Al-Kandari.
Explaining the contracts are supposed to expire in September but the ministry decided to extend them until December to have more time to prepare for the appointment of new workers by the beginning of 2011, Al-Kandari disclosed there around 16,000 laborers in charge of cleaning, internal movement and garbage disposal at the ministry. He added the administration deals with nine new labor companies this year.
Al-Kandari confirmed a new mechanism has been adopted for the payment of the salaries of the new laborers to protect their rights and avoid the recurrence of the problems the existing workers had with the current companies.
In another development, Al-Wasat daily has reported that a study conducted by the Association of Cleaning Companies has shown that Kuwait has the lowest expenditure on waste disposal among the GCC countries.
The study also found Kuwait to be one of the countries with the highest volume of waste produced yearly with over 4,250 tons of garbage daily but it spends only $25 for the disposal of a ton of waste. It also stressed the need for Kuwait to take the necessary measures to address the problem, especially since it has been trying to realize its vision to become an international economic and investment hub.
