Mass suicide bid Many nabbed in junkyard swoop
KUWAIT CITY, July 21:Four inmates of the Central Prison who are serving time in drug cases recently attempted to commit suicide by cutting their veins inside the facility because they did not want the authorities to know they were consuming drugs, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to reports this happened during a surprise inspection campaign of the prison wards at the facility upon instructions from the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Penitentiary Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Majed Al-Majed.
The inmates are hospitalized under police guard. Meanwhile Major-General Al-Majed is said to have given instructions to take blood samples of the men and send them to the Forensics lab.
During the inspection prison guards are said to have seized 16 grams of heroin and 14 cell phones.
Investigations are underway to find out how these banned items were smuggled into the facility.
Many nabbed in junkyard swoop : A team from Jahra Security Directorate launched an extensive campaign at the Amghara scrapyard to track down criminals, leading to the arrest of 38 persons found to have violated the Residency Law and wanted by law for various charges, in addition to 36 others who failed to present identification cards.
Under the leadership of Major Matar Sabil and instructions of Jahra Security Chief Brigadier Mohammad Tana Al-Enezi, the team barricaded the entry and exit points at the scrapyard to launch the surprise inspection campaign. The team arrested 30 persons with expired residency permits, eight wanted by law for absconding, civil and criminal offenses, and 36 others who failed to present their identification cards. Four of those who were arrested tried to escape but the officers overpowered them and referred them, along with the others, to the relevant security department for the necessary legal action.
Youth beaten up: Three youths traveling in a Lexus vehicle allegedly forced another youth to stop his vehicle on the Gulf Street and then beat the latter black and blue. The victim reportedly fell unconscious inside his vehicle. Sources say a passer-by informed the Operations Room following which paramedics rushed to the scene and referred the victim to Amiri Hospital for treatment. A case was registered and police are looking for the three suspects.
