Gambling, liquor trade run by armed gangs 3 faint in mad rush, chaos at ‘KD 1 per cell phone’ sale
KUWAIT CITY, July 10: In their continuous campaign against reckless motorists, vehicles displayed for sale at unauthorized places, and other vehicles parked by the roadside and in front of mosques, which have created congestion, traffic officers from Hawalli placed wheel locks on several cars, while violations were issued against their owners. The campaign is expected to continue over an unspecified period.
Gambling, liquor trade: An organized gang of Asian nationals have converted parking lots at the Tahreer Tower to suitable places for gambling and selling local liquor, reports Al-Shahid daily.
A journalist dressed in the Punjabi attire disguised as one of the suspects, and gathered first-hand information about their activities.
According to the journalist, they freely conduct their activities within the vicinity with armed bodyguards, who are placed there to take note of security operatives or other dangers. The place, which has been used for such activities for a long period, was carefully chosen after the gang discovered that security officers seldom patrol the area.
3 faint in rush, chaos: Three persons - a woman and two men - fell unconscious when hundreds of people rushed to a relatively small mobile phone shop in Shuwaikh Industrial Area which offered to give any mobile phone for KD 1 Thursday evening, reports Al-Anba daily.
A security source said there was a mad rush and chaos at the shop and three people fell unconscious. Acting on information, paramedics rushed to the place and administered first aid to them.
50 bottles liquor seized: Ahmadi securitymen arrested an Asian expatriate in possession of 50 bottles of liquor during an inspection campaign in Mahboula and referred him to authorities, reports Al-Anba daily.
Meanwhile, Capital securitymen issued 50 citations to bus drivers who pick and drop passengers from unauthorized places and on streets, thus violating traffic laws.
Asian expat beaten, robbed: Six men allegedly waylaid an Asian expatriate in Shuwaikh and asked him to hand over all his belongings. When the latter refused, they beat him, snatched his mobile phone and wallet and escaped in their car, reports Al-Rai daily. The Asian filed a case at Shuwaikh Industrial Area Police Station and gave the suspects’ description. Police are now looking for the thieves.
