‘MoH manipulated report on condition of accident victim’ ‘Jabber’s father offered KD 50,000 to withdraw case’
KUWAIT CITY, July 8: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has presented an inaccurate report on the condition of Jabber Khamees Al-Bazali, who sustained injuries when a speeding vehicle hit him recently, to protect the motorist who caused the accident, Chairman of parliamentary Human Rights Protection Committee MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei said Thursday.
Claiming that some people from the Office of the Prime Minister have intervened in the case, Al-Tabtabaei pointed out the continuous deterioration of work procedures in state institutions, manipulation of official reports, and outright disregard of the law are clear manifestations of widespread corruption in government agencies. He alleged the opportunists from the premier’s office have been putting pressure on the victim’s father - Khamees Al-Bazali, indicating they have offered him KD50,000 to withdraw the case and send his son for treatment abroad. He said the security authorities have released the motorist despite Khamees’ refusal to withdraw the case.
Al-Tabtabaei stressed the need to hold Minister of Health Dr Hilal Al-Sayer responsible for the alleged manipulation of the report, the ministers of Justice and Interior for setting the culprit free, and the premier for allowing the people in his office to misuse their position. He then urged the concerned authorities to intervene to restore the rights of the victim.
On the other hand, Khamees admitted he was surprised that the issuance of an inaccurate medical report took place in a country like Kuwait. He asserted he wants nothing from the people of Kuwait, except to help him ensure his son’s full recovery.
In another development, the Studying Negative Phenomena Committee has given the Ministry of Interior a grace period of two months to follow-up issues discussed in the recently-concluded panel meeting, such as the spread of drugs at the Central Jail and its relocation, away from the residential areas.
According to Chairman MP Mohammed Hayef, the panel underscored the importance of providing incentives to securitymen assigned in the prison and training them on how to deal with the inmates. He revealed around 100 drug dealers are operating in the prison and they have contacts outside. He opined this raises doubts on the ability of the prison administration and Interior Ministry to carry out their duties efficiently.
Hayef added the panel also met the undersecretary of the ministry of social affairs, some assistant undersecretaries, director of Juvenile Department and Family Care Home officials. He said the committee extended the grace period given to the ministry to submit a report on the condition of the residents at the Family Care Home and documents related to its officials.
