THE overabundance of committees in Kuwait has started perplexing us. These committees have absolutely ridiculous names like the Transparency Committee, Public Fund Protection Committee, Committee for Protecting the Constitution, Committee for Controlling Corruption, Truthfulness Committee, Committee for Forgotten Issues and so on.

Some of these committees are named to sound fashionable even if they don’t mean anything. It seems we will soon hear about a committee to protect flies from extinction, because it is the only committee that has not been formed yet.

If such a committee is formed, I am sure many people will be eager to join it, because the most important thing for them is to be member of a committee irrespective of its identity or activity. Are we really fond of committees or did a jealousy virus affect whole of Kuwait?

Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said “If you want to bury a case, form a committee for it.”
