Goan Assassins & Renegades continue to set pace Victorious Abannte & Pin Kickers shake up leader board KUWAIT CITY, June 29: Despite the fourth week mixed results of the on-going elimination round of the 2010 ACDC Summer Bowling League held at the Kuwait Sea Sport Club, the two front runners the Goan Assassins and the Renegades continue to set the pace. The week also saw a minor shakeup on the leader board as the victorious Abannte and Pin Kickers barged into the Top 6. D’ Strikers and Frost Real Estate on the other hand retained their Top 6 membership after stopping their respective opponents while slipping out of the lead pack were Nusantara and defending champion Goan Cyborgs who suffered stinging defeats.
Even with an incomplete lineup in the opening game of its match against Nusantara, Abannte’s pin busters were like hungry lions ready to devour its prey. With the foursome of Mars Balisi, Noel Bejar, Mar Evangelista and Vicky Navarro all bowling above their respective averages, Abannte prevailed in game one 11-2. Maintaining their devastating form in the next two games and with Gary Bonifacio checking in, Abannte made a clean sweep of the 3-game series match. The 12-2 and 8-5 victories in game two and three netted Abannted the highest team out put of the week and a 34-9 total point win. Bowling for Nusantara who were purged from the Top 6 after the setback were Naning, Nunun Mulyana, Gofar Husin, Ayi Mulyana and Jati Heri Winarto.
By sneaking past the league’s defending winners, the Pin Kickers also found their way into the elite 6. Expecting a tough match ahead, the Pin Kickers fielded a well balanced lineup in game one that responded well with a 9-2 win. Both teams then made changes in their roster and this slightly favored the Goan Cyborgs quintet of Fastima Sequeira, Brian Fernandes, Lloyd D’ Souza, Patrick Dias and Deborah Machado who eked out a close 6-5 decision. Out to win and leaving nothing to ensure it, the Pin Kickers put their top keglers on the frontline for the third and final game of the match and just as expected, this move resulted in a convincing 11-1 victory. Manning the post for the Kickers who outscored the Goan Cyborgs 28-9 were Kiko Andaya, Tony Bustria, Shahab Khamly, Jess Tolentino, Mina Andaya and Lito Michael.
Meanwhile, current leader Goan Assassins once again displayed their tenacity by recovering from a losing stint in game one to brush aside TISOK 25-11. Trying to snap out of a losing spell, Sarto Baptista, Jason Manalo, Mohammad Fateh, Librado de la Guardia and Angel Mahilum looked headed in that direction after beating the Assassins in game one via 7-4 count. Just as things were looking good for TISOK, the Goan Assasins went to work on the next game and regained the lead through an 8-3 win. On top 12-10, the Assassins brought home the bacon by taking TISOK down in game three 10-1. Uly Menezes, Rohan Fernandes, Adrian Noronha, Samantha Sequeira, Amanda Fernando, Anastasius Menezes, Jason Fernandes, Shirley Castelino and Ashanja Fernandes all contributed to the total winning point tally of the Goan Assassins.
Bowling in the second squad, Frost Real Estate’s transformation from favorite whipping team to finals berth contender gained more momentum with the real estate magnates’ 28-14 victory over the Breakers. Bannered in this match by Joel Tamayo, Reynaldo Galvez, Hermi Saliba, Jess Cunanan, Egay Cabildo, Rico Baluyot and Michelle Avila, Frost Real Estate shut the Breakers out of the match with three (7-5, 10-5, 8-4) straight victories. Suiting up for the Breakers in this outing were Joe Presenta, Rocky Castil, Alfred Avila, Dante Bragado, Rudolf Castelino, Louie Buenaventura, Sarel and Fe Ferer. In the remaining matches of the week, D’ Strikers stayed glued to fourth place by halting the Amateurs 28-11. Pouring the needed win points for D’ Strikers in the 7-5, 8-4 and 10-2 game victories were Bob Navarro, Caloy Garay, Liza Catapia, Rod Llait and Demie Nardo. Finally, Q8EGifts.com who caught the second running Renegades napping dished out a tough 21-16 upset win. The underdog of the league, the gift specialists grabbed the lead early with a 9-3 edge in game one. Even as the Renegades through Eddie Pena, Rico Galang, Ramon Mesina, Agnes Noble and Mandy Manalo closed in by coming back in game two with a 7-3 win, Rudy Mandoya, Benyamin Hasan, Colin Ashley, Gloyne Fernandes and Merlyn Fernandes went home with the match in the bag by holding the Renegades to 6-6 draw in game three.
The team standings after four weeks are as follows (read as rank, team name and total points for), 1. Goan Assassins-103, 2. Renegades-91, 3. Abannte-89, 4. D’ Strikers-86, 5.
