Jahra police hunt 15-man gang for beating, robbing passersby Buy drugs at grocery
KUWAIT CITY, June 29: The Jahra police are looking for a 15-man gang for robbing pedestrians, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The activities of the gang came to light when they waylaid a driver of a fast food restaurant, beat him and stole his wallet containing KD 300, civil ID and his driving license.
The incident happened while the man was delivering food to a family in Amghara.
Drugs at grocery : A team of detectives from the Directorate General for Drug Control (DGDC) apprehended a grocery store attendant in possession of 500 illicit pills in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, following a directive issued by the Acting Undersecretary for Criminal Affairs Major General Ahmad Al-Khalifa.
Security sources said the anti-narcotics chief and his assistant got wind of the suspect’s illicit drug trading activities and formed the team, led by Captain Khalid Ghloum, to bring the suspect to justice, whereby an undercover agent approached the suspect and sealed a deal to purchase 100 pills for KD100. He was arrested as the deal was completed, as the detective used marked currency to pay for the pills.
Meanwhile, an additional 500 pills were found on the suspect at the time he was arrested. He confessed to buying each pill for 500 fils, which he in return sold for KD1. He also claimed he had no idea the drug was narcotic and mistook it for a body energizer.
Crackdown on: The Jahra Traffic Department has issued 16,883 citations for violators of traffic laws, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting Director of the department Brigadier Mohammed Ayed Al-Khalidi.
Al-Khalidi added over a five-month period the department has completed 34,709 licenses.
In other news the daily added 9,558 licenses have been issued for shops in a market in the area. The daily did not give more details.
Woman assaulted: An unidentified female employee of the Credit and Savings Bank has filed a complaint with the Salhiya Police Station accusing a male colleague of beating her and stealing her cell phone, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to the complainant she got up from her seat and the suspect followed her. She added she thought the man wanted to ask something and turned back.’
As soon as she turned, the man assaulted her and took her cell phone from her handbag and escaped.
Hawkers nabbed: During a crackdown in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area, the Capital Governorate Municipality is said to have issued 850 citations and closed down four establishments for violating Municipal laws, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The Municipality personnel are also said to have seized a large quantity of foodstuff believed to be unfit for human consumption and arrested 80 hawkers for violating labor and residence laws.
