16.7 pct of Kuwaitis suffering from diabetes: health specialist MoH resolves disagreements over excellent work allowance

KUWAIT CITY, June 26: Around 16.7 percent of Kuwaitis are suffering from diabetes compared to 5.8 percent in the US and five percent in Europe, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting health specialist at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Dr Laila Al-Fazee.
Speaking during the Diabetes Awareness Day organized by the Ministry of Finance at the Ministries Complex, in collaboration with the Nursing Department at the MoH, Al-Fazee explained virus infections can lead to diabetes. She warned those who do not strictly follow the treatment procedures and required diet may suffer from severe repercussions which cannot be treated.
Meanwhile, Dr Sherine Jaber clarified there are many symptoms of diabetes, including excessive sweating, shivering, extreme hunger, fast heart beat, dizziness and blurry vision. She urged the public to undergo regular medical check ups, eat regularly and have an active lifestyle to prevent diabetes.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) has resolved disagreements over the excellent work allowance for employees who are more than 65 years old, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting sources.
Sources affirmed the ministry has deposited a total of KD 5 million to the accounts of employees who met the conditions, except those who are over 65 years old. Sources revealed around 100 employees, including doctors, administrative staff and technical workers, have been exempted from the allowance due to the age factor. Sources explained these workers have been excluded from the allowance according to the decision of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), which states that these employees are not entitled to committee or outstanding performance allowances. Sources added these workers receive only the salaries agreed upon by the ministry and CSC.
In another development, acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr Yousef Al-Nisf issued an administrative decision transferring Natural Medicine Consultant Dr Waleed Al-Basiri from the Natural Medicine Hospital and Medical Rehabilitation to Adan Hospital in Ahmadi area, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Nisf did not mention the reason for transfer in the decision. He only pointed out that ministerial decision No. 134/2010 ends the deputation of Al-Basiri at the Natural Medicine Hospital and Medical Rehabilitation. Al-Basiri also lost his position as chairman of the Council of Natural Medicine Departments.
