KUWAIT CITY, June 25: Nine people, including a fire officer, were injured when fire besieged a four-storey building in Khaitan.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the location to help out the situation, immediately after the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry was notified. Upon arrival, the officers evacuated about 45 tenants from the building before they begun the operation.
According to sources, the fire started on wood and other furniture abandoned at the entrance of the building, which spread to the first floor and subsequently extended to the roof of the building. Five of the injured people, including the fireman, were treated on the spot by paramedics, and the remaining four were referred to the Farwaniya Hospital for medical care.
Deputy Director-General for Anti-fire and Human Resource Affairs, Brigadier Yousef Al-Ansari, followed up the incident through communication, and he thanked the firemen for immense efforts they exerted to rescue the tenants, and quenching the fire in a record time.
Meanwhile, fire broke out at a grocery store in Hawalli area Thursday, after a generator inside the store exploded. However, there were no injuries.
Acting on information the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received about the episode, firemen accompanied securitymen and paramedics to the scene, and they managed to extinguish the fire without it causing severe damage.

Spoilt fish sale foiled : Alert inspectors are said to have foiled an attempt by unidentified people to sell spoiled fish which was imported from one of the Gulf states. The Al-Seyassah daily quoting security sources said the fish was on its way to the Fish Market in Sharq, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The inspectors added the fish was spoiled and unfit for human consumption and was destroyed immediately.
On the other hand, the Ahmadi Municipality branch said during a surprise inspection campaign conducted by the Food and Markets Control Department resulted in destroying 470 kilos of spoiled chicken.
The Municipality added after conducting a lab tests it was discovered the chicken contained salmonella.


6 men attack Egyptian: An Egyptian man has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries. He was allegedly attacked and robbed by six men in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to security sources the victim was walking along the road when the six riding in a car pulled up by his side, climbed out of the car and attacked the man.
They beat him mercilessly until he fell down. They then robbed his wallet and cell phone and escaped. Police are looking for the suspects.

2 Asians held for theft: Security operatives on routine patrol in Amghara scrapyard arrested two Asians in possession of stolen iron, after the officers spotted their car parked in front of a store and approached them for questioning.
Security sources said the men became confused as they spotted the officers approaching their car. During interrogation, the men claimed they worked at the shop. However, the officer discovered the stolen items when they went ahead to search inside the car, and so they arrested the men, who have since been handed over to the concerned authority for necessary action.

Ex-wife assaults Dane: A 46-year-old Danish citizen has filed a complaint with the Fintas Police Station accusing his 32-year-old Kuwaiti ex-wife of beating him, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The man has submitted a medical report showing serious injuries on his body. In his complaint the man said the ex-wife barged into his apartment in Mahboula and beat him for no reason.
She is being summoned by the police for interrogation.

Drunk motorist crashes: The Muba-rak Al-Kabir police patrol have arrested and detained a 28-year-old Kuwaiti at the Adan Police Station, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
According to reports the man was arrested in King Fahd Expressway for causing a traffic accident. When the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior dispatched police to investigate the accident it was discovered the Kuwaiti was high on alcohol.
