MP hints questioning Humoud over alleged exam papers leak Approve pay hike for defense officers: Harbash
KUWAIT CITY, June 23: MP Dr Salwa Al-Jassar has hinted on her plan to question Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud on the alleged leakage of examination questions, reports Al-Rai daily.
Asserting she will not hesitate to use grilling as a last resort in case the minister fails to take the necessary action to address the problem, Al-Jassar said she was surprised when Al-Humoud disregarded reports on the alleged sale of examination question papers. She added she received information that some students deliberately enter examination halls late and use their mobile phones to contact teachers to demand answers to certain questions. She claimed this is a common practice in the Capital Educational Zone.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hamad Al-Rasheed has accused the female lawmakers of impeding efforts to grant Kuwaiti women their social and civil rights, supported by the government, under the pretext that implementation of the proposal is an added burden on the nation’s coffers, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Rasheed made the statement in a symposium he organized recently under the slogan “Promising Opportunities and Artificial Challenges”. He claimed the Women Affairs Committee at the Parliament has been focusing on political gains by manipulating work procedures to narrow interests. He said the panel members have outrightly rejected the proposals of their colleagues because the approval of these suggestions might expose their true identities to the women of Kuwait.
Emphasizing the need to approve a draft bill on the civil and social rights of women, Al-Rasheed argued this proposal was built on a certain philosophy to balance the roles of women as citizens who contribute to nation-building and homemakers. He pointed out men should stand beside their female counterparts to allow the latter to perform their duties efficiently. He also called for the amendment of existing laws that inhibit women’s roles towards their children and the society. He appealed to the committee to approve the proposals presented by lawmakers to guarantee an honorable life for Kuwaiti women.
In the meantime, MP Dr Jamaan Al-Harbash has asked the government to approve the proposed salary increment for defense officers and forward them for voting to the National Assembly on Sunday, reports Al-Anba daily.
Emphasizing the need for the government to quickly refer the proposed increment to the legislature, Al-Harbash hopes for the approval of the increment before the summer break.
Sources revealed the proposed increase ranges from 85 to 100 percent, claiming the highest percentage will go to the National Guard officers.
A reliable source from the Ministry of Interior added some ranks will receive 100 percent increase, while Assistant Manager for Financial and Administrative Affairs at Kuwait Fire Service Directorate Brigadier General Khaled Al-Turkait confirmed all firemen are included in the increment.
