‘Kuwait winning in anti-drugs war’ ‘MoH takes good care of addicts’

KUWAIT CITY, June 23, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait has made big strides in fighting drugs, Director of the Security Media Department and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior Brigadier Mohammad Hashem Al-Sabr said here Wednesday. Al-Sabr pointed to the seriousness of this blight that threatens world as a whole and targets world youth, stressing in an address delivered on the occasion of marking the World Drug Day which falls on June 26 of every year the key role played by the Drug Fighting Department, the Interior Ministry’s Department for Criminal Evidence Investigation, the Coast Guard Department as well as Kuwait’s Customs Department.

He also hailed the role played by the Ministry of Health at the remedial and rehabilitation levels along with the call made by the National Committee for the Prevention of Narcotic Drugs (NCPND) for establishing a center for addiction treatment in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Al-Sabr said that the NCPND exerts big efforts in this respect as its role is not confined to spreading local awareness, but it also proposed the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) society for the prevention and fighting of narcotic drugs under the supervision of the GCC Secretariat General. He concluded by saying that Kuwait made big achievements over the past years in this respect thanks to the gigantic efforts made by the Ministry of Interior led by the Minister Lt. Gen. Sheikh Jaber Khalid Jaber Al-Sabah.
