KUWAIT CITY, June 19: MP Saleh Ashour submitted a query to Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shamali asking why instructions were not given to implement the new labor law in the banking sector, reports Al-Anba daily.
“Why wasn’t a directive asking for the implementation of the law not issued in this vital sector?” he asked.
The lawmaker also asked for a photocopy of decisions issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) and local banks in this respect.
He also called on bank unions and other authorities to look into the issue.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior is in support of the proposal submitted by MP Ali Al-Deqbasi on the duration of annual leaves the ministry approves for policemen, wherein he is pushing for 60 days leave period, instead of the existing 45 days, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources.
In response to the proposal on amending item 80 of the Police Law, with regards to the duration of leave, the ministry stressed the proposal bears no legal clarification; therefore, it could be approved, the sources added.
Sources indicated the ministry is willing to approve the proposal to exchange the leave for financial allowance, based on the prerequisite of the Ministry of Interior.
In another development, MP Saleh Ashour praised initiative by HH the Amir to promptly provide temporary accommodation for victims of the Sawaber fire incident, saying the action is not strange, considering the Amir feels the suffering of his people, while supporting them in every situation, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Ashour went on to appreciate efforts exerted by the Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, the State Minister for Housing, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad in that regard, and decision by the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Mudhi Al-Hummoud to postpone exams for the student victims.
He touched on the deteriorating condition at the Sawaber complex, stressing he had toured the area with more than one minister to verify the poor situation of the complex, besides problems the residents are facing; however, no concrete effort has been made to resolve the problem. He urged the government to act swiftly and tackle the problem to avoid more calamities.
Cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities is vital in eradicating corruption and developing the nation, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting lawmaker Shuaib Al-Muwaizri.
Al-Muwaizri asserted the Parliament and government should exhaust all means to combat financial and administrative corruption. He stressed the prevalence of corruption has negatively affected public interest and led to wastage of national wealth without holding those involved in corruption.
He also demanded fast approval of the anti-corruption draft bills on financial protection and formation of the transparency authority to track down those involved in corruption.
He also emphasized the need to impose harsher penalties, such as lifetime imprisonment or execution.
