Cheap laptops at Friday Market Thieves prowling eateries for cells

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: Police have arrested three men for stealing mobile phones of customers at a restaurant in Hawalli and are looking for their other two partners, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The five-member gang which consisted of Egyptians and Syrians took advantage of the fact that most customers leave their cell phones on tables when they go to wash their hands and mastered the art of picking the phones at the right moment and escaping.
The owner of the restaurant saw one such theft while seeing the footage of CCTV camera installed in his restaurant and before going to police station, he happened to visit a nearby restaurant and saw the thieves sitting there. He promptly called police who managed to arrest three of them while two others ran away.
The three men were referred to authorities and police are looking for the other two.

52 kg hashish seized:  Security operatives at the Northern Land Border apprehended two Iraqis who wanted to smuggle 52 kilograms of hashish into the country early Friday morning.
The officers detected the trick through an electronic gadget. They have since referred the suspects to the authority for prosecution.
Meanwhile, Director General of Farwaniya Security Directorate Brigadier General Habib Ghuloum supervised a four-hour security campaign in Kheitan and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh recently as part of the security authorities’ efforts to track down criminals.

Police imposters sought: Police are looking for two unidentified persons for impersonating police and stealing KD 600 from a Bangladeshi man, reports Al-Anba daily.
The Bangladeshi lodged a complaint at Sulaibikhat Police Station saying a Kuwaiti man gave him KD 600 for carrying out a construction job in his house. However, after a little while, two thieves in a black jeep stopped him claiming that they were police and drove off with his money.

Laptops gone cheap: Police arrested a Bedoun for stealing computers from a shop in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, reports Al-Anba daily.
A police source said the thief was selling new laptops in their cartons at the Friday Market and when he offered to sell a laptop for KD 60 to a Kuwaiti man who knew that the original price was KD 300, the latter grew suspicious and called police who arrived and arrested the Bedoun. The suspect then admitted to stealing the computers from a shop in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

Youth ‘cleavered’: A Kuwaiti teenager suffered from a deep cut in the head after engaging in a public brawl with another youth in Rumaithiya due to earlier disputes.
Securitymen and paramedics rushed to the location after receiving information about the fight. Sources revealed the youth used a cleaver to hit on the victim’s head and fled from the scene, leaving the latter in a pool of blood.
Paramedics referred the victim to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital where he is currently confined at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he is said to be in a serious condition.
Investigations are underway and police are now looking for the suspect.
