Many citizens do not understand the principles of democracy
DR ABDULLAH AL-NAFEESI is a very controversial person but at the same time he is keen on following the latest developments. I still remember his speech in a previous symposium during which he said, “When I was taken to a police station and detained for eight days, none of the Kuwaitis inquired about my situation. From then on, I decided not to think of this nation. I have also realized that many citizens do not understand the principles of democracy.”
At the time, Al-Nafeesi eloquently talked about his beliefs. He thought the people were interested in his ideologies, but they left him alone inside the police station for eight days because they heard another opinion, which contradicted his ideas. They thought the other opinion was better than that of Al-Nafeesi.
Apparently, there have been no remarkable changes in our society as some people still adopt any idea propagated by the public in the political arena, only to realize later that the public left them alone to face the law. Forgive us!
