Telecom firms to filter immoral websites Nod to BlackBerry use within limits of country’s morality code

KUWAIT CITY, June 8: The telecommunication companies in Kuwait are currently coordinating with a Canadian company, which offers BlackBerry service, to filter immoral websites, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting Ministry of Communications Undersecretary Abdulmohsen Al-Mazeedi.
Al-Mazeedi made the statement during the opening of the 19th meeting of the GCC ministerial committee for postal service, telecommunications and information technology recently.
Clarifying that Kuwait has no intention to stop the use of BlackBerry, Al-Mazeedi said BlackBerry is a new technology and people should not be deprived of their right to use this gadget but it should be within the limits of the morality code of the country.
Affirming the resolutions presented during the meeting will greatly benefit the citizens, Al-Mazeedi disclosed the proposals include reducing call charges, integration between GCC nations and electronic link. He said the mobile phone call charges, SMS and multi-media messages, as well as Internet, are expected to decrease by 50 percent in the next two years.
He added the implementation of this proposal will start in September with around 25 to 30 percent reduction in the charges.
Refuting allegations on the establishment of the fourth telecommunication company in Kuwait, Al-Mazeedi stressed there is no plan to form this company but the landline services will be transferred to a stock company through the BOT system. He stated 50 percent of the shares in this company will be put up for subscription, 26 percent for investment and 24 percent for government institutions.
