Al-Tahous to submit grilling request against PM Sunday MP to present photographic evidence of Umm Al-Haiman
KUWAIT CITY, May 28: MP Khalid Al-Tahous is expected to submit a grilling request against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah on Sunday May 30, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting reliable sources from the Popular Bloc.
The same sources added the pivots of the proposal entail the environment pollution in Umm Al-Haiman, and government’s failure to tackle the problem, saying Al-Tahous will present the proposal with photographic evidence of interviews and testimonies by government officials who confessed the pollution rate in Umm Al-Haiman violate the international standard.
They are also of the view that the health situation in the zone will deteriorate completely, unless the factories abide by environmental regulations.
In the meantime, the bloc expects support from members of the National Labor Bloc, including MP Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Saleh Al-Mulla and Adel Al-Saarawi, and the Popular Labor Bloc will in return support them in the “Sports Law’’ proposal.
In a related development, parliamentary sources disclosed the government is planning to face the supposed interpellation behind closed doors, seeing that several MPs support the wish.
Sources indicated the government will swiftly settle the issue, in order to close the file completely.
On his part, MP Adnan Al-Mutawa’ said the proposal - which will be the seventh, will end in failure. He reiterated many MPs are convinced with procedures adopted by the government in this respect.
In another development, the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) is making tremendous efforts to provide enough energy to consumers and is taking all precautions to prevent the implementation of programmed power-cuts. But if the consumption rates exceed the supply, we will not hesitate to implement power-cuts, Al-Jarida daily quoted Minister Dr Bader Al-Shuraiaan as saying.
The minister said units which are usually not put in service during winter have been activated to meet summer requirements and added that emergency teams will be available round the clock in all six governorates. Moreover, Al-Shuraiaan said awareness campaigns on electricity conservation will be conducted in all governorates of the country.
Speaking about maintenance jobs, the minister said MEW will hire international companies to provide high-quality maintenance services at all power stations and water desalination plants.
