MP threatens Cabinet grilling ‘Cancel licenses of violating factories at Umm Al-Haiman’
KUWAIT CITY, May 15: MP Khalid Al-Tahous has threatened to submit a grilling request against the Cabinet for discussion on May 25 at the Parliament in case the executive authority refuses to cancel the licenses of factories found to have greatly contributed in the rising levels of pollution in Umm Al-Haiman, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed the grilling request will focus on the inability of the Cabinet to implement environment safety regulations; thereby, harming the health of residents in Umm Al-Haiman. Sources affirmed the Popular Labor Bloc fully supports Al-Tahous’ plan and it might add other issues to the interpellation request.
Meanwhile, MP Mubarak Al-Wa’alan has proposed KD 750 as the minimum pension for retirees, besides the monthly social allowances for widows and divorcees, indicating the retirement allowance is too meager, so the notion should be corrected to improve the living standard of the retired citizens, reports Al-Anba daily.
MP Al-Wa’alan noted the pension does not commensurate to the prices hike, urging the government must look into the issue as a matter of urgency, in order to relieve the Kuwaiti families whose breadwinners depend on the paltry sum at the end of every month for their upkeep.
He said some retirees are responsible for the study fees of their children who are still schooling, and they are bound to provide the necessary needs of those children, in order that they may complete their education without stress.
He lamented over the government’s deliberate ignorance with the plight of divorcees and widows. “Are those widows and divorcees not part of Kuwait? They have the right to better their standard of living, in addition to qualitative education, and other needs of life, for their children too,” the lawmaker argued.
In the meantime, the National Assembly intends to finalize discussions on the proposed issuance of birth certificates to Bedouns in the next few days, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.
Confirming the concerned departments have completed the necessary procedures to allow Bedouns to obtain birth certificates, sources said this came after a long meeting between the ministries of Health and Interior, as well as the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), at the end of the two-month grace period specified by the parliamentary Health Affairs Committee, which is headed by lawmaker Dr Rola Dashti.
Sources disclosed an agreement has been reached on putting the phrase ‘non-Kuwaiti’ on the space allocated for the child’s nationality and that of his father.
