Tehran must listen in time
IRAN can no longer fool anybody regarding its nuclear file, because the international community has previous experience in such actions and they have given Iran enough time to put things in the right perspective. Iran should seize the opportunity to prevent the entire region from drinking from the competitive cup of sour nuclear proliferation. Declaration of Iran’s acceptance of the Turkish-Brazilian initiative on the external uranium enrichment is another method for buying time and sinking into another round of negotiations later. After this, Iran will announce its plan to increase the enrichment level and put more centrifugal equipment to build new reactors.
No other nuclear file in the world enjoys similar level of give-and-take as Iran due to the foot-dragging style adopted by its government, which has aroused suspicion of the international community. Iran would have accepted the external enrichment offer from the beginning if it really intended to use uranium for peaceful purposes. It would have saved millions of dollars wasted on nuclear reactors, and spent the money for development and improving its infrastructure.
North Korea serves a good example in this situation, because it has started succumbing to pressure from the international community, while finding a way out of the logjam that it has created. It has come back to its senses by searching for an exit point during the recent visit of its president to China.
The provocative activities of Iran in the region have led the entire world to suspect the country, especially since it has never initiated any positive move to open the nuclear file. It hardly comes out of a certain maneuver before going into another military confrontation. We fully understand that any country, which regularly embarks on various schemes, is preparing for military action.
If we closely look at the Iranian security and political aggravations in the region, which coincide with its plans, we will realize that Iran has been confrontational in order to actualize its annexation objectives. This is a suicidal project and its implication on the region is fatal, so the world will not allow the government led by adventurers to possess nuclear weapons in order to prevent a global disaster.
India and Pakistan are part of the Third World countries, while the latter is a Muslim nation, but they have possessed nuclear weapons for some years. Despite the confrontations between the two nations, the world does not nurse any fear in this regard, because the administrations of both countries are responsible, especially in the area of nuclear power. These countries have never bothered to export revolution or provoke neighboring states, while the historical face-off between New Delhi and Islamabad does not prevent cooperation in various areas, including anti-terrorism strategies.
However, Iran has been providing shelter to al-Qaeda leaders, while supporting terrorist groups and secessionists in several Arab and Muslim nations. It has embarked on ceaseless incursion to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and Lebanon, in addition to indirect interference in the internal affairs of the GCC and Yemen. Based on these facts, how can the world feel safe amid the Iranian justifications?
Nobody, including children, is convinced by the allegation of Iran that the world does not want Muslim nations to possess nuclear power. Some Muslim countries own nuclear power, but they use it for peaceful purposes. The Iranian security and political activities have prompted the whole world, especially Muslim nations which have no sectarian undertone, to reject Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran seems determined to use weapons against its neighbors. This will adversely affect the whole world, which intends to close the marketing door against Iran in the next few weeks by imposing harsh penalties to force it to do the right thing. Will Iran heed these calls before it is too late?
