Ramon foils Rico charge to lift ‘B’ title Brian edges Nunun to clinch Class C Masters

KUWAIT CITY, May 3: Veteran campaigner Ramon Mesina of Delta Corporation foiled the ultra strong late charge by team mate Rico Galang to lift the Men Class B Masters title of the 2010 ACDC Winter Tenpin Bowling Tournament held at the Kuwait Sea Sport Club in Ras Salmiya. Goan Cyborgs stalwart Brian Fernandes on the other hand mustered enough pin busting firepower to edge Nunun Mulyana of Nusantara in clinching his first Men Class C Masters crown.
Stepping into the lanes to vie for the Men Class B Masters were Sarto Baptista, Shahab Khamaly, Jazel Pangilinan, Demie Nardo, Jess Tolentino, Alex Cervantes, Sean Fernandes, Rico galang, Ramon Mesina, Mandy Manalo, George Boushebel, Collin Costa, Nelson de Leon, Lloyd Fernandes and Noel Bejar. An opening 2-game block score of 361 (186, 175) installed Rico Galang on the driver’s seat towing Ramon Mesina (353), Lloyd Fernandes (351), George Boushebel (346) and Sean Fernandes (338) into the next game. After burning the lanes with a fiery hot performance in game 3 where he bowled a tenacious 254 pin falls, Lloyd Fernandes grabbed the lead with his 3-game series tally of 605 pin falls. In game 4, Lloyd Fernandes (741) came crashing back to ground with a 136 but was able to hang on to a 2-mark lead over Ramon Mesina (723).


At the halfway mark of the 9-game series event, Noel Bejar snatched the lead away from Lloyd Fernandes 928-923 after rolling a 214 in game 5. The other keglers still in contention at this juncture with four more games to play were Ramon Mesina-885, Jess Tolentino-831, Rico Galang-824 and George Boushebel-795. After Lloyd Fernandes regained the top spot in game 6, Ramon Mesina made his move in game 7 were he succeeded in taking lead. Just when Ramon Mesina looked headed for an easy victory, Rico Galang erupted with a stunning 265 score in the penultimate game to cut down Ramon Mesina’s edge to just 3 pin falls 1426-1423. Noel Bejar (1416) together with Lloyd Fernandes (1403) remained in contention going to the last game of the series. A closing score of 186 wrapped up things for Ramon Mesina as he emerged victorious with a final tally of 1612 pin falls. The rest of the top finishers checked in as follows, Rico Galang-1606, Noel Bejar-1584, Lloyd Fernandes-1564, Nelson D’ Souza-1517, Colin Costa-1471, George Boushebel-1463 and Mandy Manalo-1405.
Moving on to Men Class B, the 17 contenders were Tonie Siasat, Bima Nitikusumo, Fahmi Ahmad, Edgar Pascua, Sudrajat, Adrian Noronha, Uly Menezes, Chito Mercap, Rohan Fernandes, Rey Galvez, Rudy Manoha, Brian Fernandes, Nunun Mulyana, Jhun Castracion, Edsel Rodriguez, Joel Tamayo and Gofar Husin. Dishing out a performance worthy of a Class A bowler, Brian Fernandes was the early pace setter after two games with 371 pin falls from his opening game scores of 190 and 181. Also in the lead pack were Jhun Castracion-333, Edsel Rodriguez-324, Nunun Mulyana-317, Gofar Husin-308 and Joel Tamayo-301. Able to maintain his tenacity, Brian Fernandes (733) stretched his advantage from his nearest pursuer Edsel Rodriguez (670) to 6 marks as the rest of the lead pack started drift away.


In game 5, most of the front runners bowled below par except for Edsel Rodriguez who gained ground on the leader. In the next game, the same scenario prevailed but this time it was Nunun Mulyana who took advantage of the situation as he took over second place trailing Brian Fernandes by four marks 1021-979.  In the next two games, the tough Brian Fernandes (1348) submitted games of 178 and 149 to tighten his grip on the number one post 48 pin falls ahead Nunun Mulyana who carded 1300 pin falls. With just a game left to bowl, the other remaining contenders were Edsel Rodriguez-1275, Jhun Castracion-1244, Joel Tamayo-1221 and Gofar Husin-1191. In the final game of the 9-game series competition, Nunun Mulyana went all out to try and catch Brian Fernandes but finishing with a 173 against Nunun’s 193, Brian triumphantly lifted the coveted title. The final order of finish of the group’s top 6 was as follows, Brian Fernandes-1521, Nunun Mulyana-1492, Jhun Catracion-1405, Edsel Rodriguez-1385, Joel Tamayo-1363 and Gofar Husin-1325.
