‘Sponsors must pay fines’

KUWAIT CITY, May 1 : Fines for traffic violations committed by people who drive rented cars or their sponsor’s vehicles should be paid by rental offices and sponsors, in case the violators leave the country, a source in the General Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior told Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The source said rental offices will be made to oblige clients sign a promissory note using K-Net card and it will be used only if the client violates traffic rules during the rental time. Indicating that this policy is practiced in some GCC states, the source said sponsors of drivers should also check from time to time to ensure that the driver did not commit any traffic violations.

Call traders in police net: Personnel from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Communications launched a severe campaign against illegal overseas call providers and raided 39 internet cafés in Salmiya and Hawalli over the last two weeks, reports Al-Anba daily.
A police source said 22 persons were arrested for violating residency laws and 27 cell phones, 216 landline telephone instruments and many computers were confiscated from the illegal service providers.
