Committee agrees to postpone discussing priorities timetable Barrak slams FM over Iraq statements

KUWAIT CITY, May 1: The Priorities Committee at the Parliament has agreed to postpone deliberations on the priorities timetable until the next legislative session due to the political instability in the House.
According to reliable sources from the legislature, the committee finds it difficult to redistribute the priorities within the current session, since the agenda for remaining four parliamentary meetings from May to June 2010 include important issues, such as the soaring prices of commodities, anti-corruption authority and account receivables law, in addition to the civil and social rights of women.
Committee Chairman MP Hussein Al-Huraiti admitted the schedule is very tight but the panel will prioritize the important issues. He advised the Parliament to tackle the pressing issues first, before delving on other matters.

Meanwhile, other sources pointed out the government seems not interested in the decision of a joint committee, consisting of members from the Finance and Legislation committees, on the restructuring of the judiciary, granting it a separate budget, and establishing an autonomous Fatwa Department.
Statement
Moreover, Al-Qabas daily has reported that official spokesperson of Popular Labor Bloc Musallam Al-Barrak has expressed disappointment over the statement of Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah on investing the Kuwaiti compensation in Iraq and using the investment for rebuilding Iraq. He warned against this direction, asserting he will strongly oppose it in case the minister presses ahead with this move. He accused the minister of succumbing to the Iraqi pressure at the expense of the Kuwaitis.

Al-Barrak went on to say the minister should focus on the development of Kuwait’s infrastructure, instead of focusing on the Iraqi issue. He lamented some residential areas in Kuwait have no schools for different educational levels, while some houses have no electricity until now. He added there are areas in Kuwait without proper roads and water supply.
On the other hand, MP Mubarak Al-Khurainej stressed the need to issue birth certificates to children born to Kuwaiti fathers married to Bedouns. He said this is an outright violation of the children’s rights. He threatened to grill Health Minister Dr Hilal Al-Sayer in case of failure to address the issue.
