EPA recommends closure of 4 factories in West Shuaiba ‘Protecting environment, raising public awareness vital’
KUWAIT CITY, April 30: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has submitted a recommendation to the Higher Council for Environment asking it to shut down four factories in West Shuaiba, says EPA Director General Dr Salah Al-Mudhi.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Al-Mudhi said licenses of two other factories have been revoked for not abiding by environmental regulations. He mentioned that EPA and the Higher Council for Environment constantly follow up with factories in the south of the country, in order to provide a clear environment for people of Umm Al-Haiman and asserted that the authority deals with violating industrial establishments according to a certain mechanism.
Al-Mudhi stressed that the government is serious about solving the problem of pollution in south Kuwait and added that “it helped the authority enforce the law on factory owners.”

Moreover, he said, the procedures taken to stop environment pollution are not against the Kuwaiti industrialists, but they are aimed at ensuring the welfare of residents in the area. He also emphasized that the authority will continue to carry out inspection campaigns in industrial areas.
Furthermore, Al-Mudhi said EPA will recommend the closing of a number of establishments in Asherej due to the damage they caused to the marine environment.

On the sidelines of a celebration held Thursday night to honor EPA’s employees, Al-Mudhi praised the efforts made by personnel who have worked for the advancement of the organization and hailed their role in raising awareness among society members on ways to counter environmental challenges.
EPA is keen on hiring skilled national cadres along developing services and personnel’s performance, he said, and noted the role of EPA staff in supervising Shuaiba’s western plants, and those of Isheirij, Doha, Mishref’s station and many others.
The event was organised to award contributions made, and also to motivate staff for more achievements, he said, and noted that EPA was trying to create an atmosphere characterized by trust and stability among employees.
Al-Mudhi hailed those who have supported EPA, namely First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and the Chairman of the Higher Environment Council, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah with his decisions directed towards preserving environment along with media which joined forces with EPA in countering all forms of pollution.
