MoH nods salary hike for druggists, lab technicians Docs treat patients like guinea pigs: activist

KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The Undersecretary of Support Medical Services at the Ministry of Health Dr Qais Al-Duwairi announced that the new salary scale of pharmacists and laboratory technicians has been approved, and it will be paid to beneficiaries without exception, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Duwairi added the laboratory sector will witness development in the coming period, with the expansion of hospitals, and advanced primary health care service. He made the declaration while inaugurating a joint conference on laboratory, medicine and their management, on behalf of the Health Minister Dr Hilal Al-Sayer at the Radisson SAS Hotel Monday morning.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Duwairi stated the ministry will focus on the quality of service the laboratories provide, and revealed the Civil Service Commission (CSC) agreed on hiring about 2,000 nurses for the ministry, indicating the proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Meanwhile,  Kuwaiti political activist and Administrative Consultant to the General Manager of Al-Ghanim Consultancy Center, Sheikha Al-Ghanim decried the unpleasant treatment patients normally receive from many doctors across the globe, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Ghanim lamented over the laid-back attitude by some doctors and nurses after patients undergo surgical operations, or during intensive care procedures. She stressed that some patients are handled like experimental rats (guinea pigs) rather than human beings who are going through treatment in hospitals, and went on to urge the international human rights organizations to show more concern with this dangerous phenomenon. Al-Ghanim reiterated that patients are the weakest segment of the society, and they deserve better care before, during and after surgery, while their protection is extremely important.
