Bangladeshi kidnapper cabbie caught, caged housemaids freed
KUWAIT CITY, April 20: Capital securitymen arrested a Bangladeshi national who had kidnapped a Nepalese housemaid from Sulaibikhat last Thursday and sold her to pimps in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area.
The maid was kidnapped when she hailed a taxi to go to meet her husband after work. The taxi driver had kidnapped her and asked her husband to pay KD 350 to secure her release. However, later he sold her to pimps and she was forced to engage in flesh trade for three days until she was rescued on Sunday.
The victim recognized the Bangladeshi and confirmed that he had kidnapped her. The man had earlier kidnapped six other Asian women who are literally caged with doors and windows secured with bars by the flesh traders. A police source said the suspect specialized in kidnapping and selling housemaids.
The Bangladeshi led securitymen to his partner and the latter was arrested too, said the source, adding all the kidnapped women were released.
Investigations are going on and securitymen are trying to arrest all criminals operating in the area.
Fake $50m cheque: Police have arrested a retired Kuwaiti lieutenant colonel for possessing a cheque for $50 million, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a knowledgeable security source.
The man was arrested after the international police informed their Kuwaiti counterpart that the man holds a forged cheque issued by a bank in Ireland. Police armed with a search and arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecution raided the man’s home and seized the cheque from him.
The same source said the officer tried in vain to cash the cheque in Kuwait. The police are investigating the activities of the senior retired officer.
Liquor, pills seized: Police have arrested three men from an unidentified GCC state for possessing two bottles of alcohol and 42 narcotic pills, reports Al-Dar daily.
According to reports the suspects were caught at a late evening hour while parking their vehicle in front of a restaurant.
They have been referred to the authorities.
Drunkard seeks cure: A Kuwaiti man who is in his 30s and believed to be a drunkard has surrendered to the Jahra police with a request to refer him to a hospital for rehabilitation, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to reports the man has been referred to the relevant authorities.
Youth hospitalized: A Kuwaiti youth who lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a lamppost in the middle of the road on Restaurants Street has been admitted to the Mubarak Al-Kabir Hospital, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily did not give more details.
Shut ‘baqalas’ at 12: Jahra securitymen referred two grocery owners to authorities for keeping their shops open after midnight.
Kuwait Municipality had put up posters at all grocery stores located in residential areas, urging them to close by midnight. Owners of two shops, however, pulled out the posters and kept doing business beyond midnight.
