Give allowances to jobless Kuwaitis: MPs ‘Unemployment one of the biggest challenges’
KUWAIT CITY, April 19: Five lawmakers have submitted a proposal requiring the government to grant unemployment assistance to Kuwaitis who have no jobs.
Lawmakers Abdullah Al-Roumi, Adel Al-Saraawai, Adnan Abdulsamad, Naji Al-Abdulhadi and Salwa Al-Jassar pointed out that unemployment is one of the biggest challenges Kuwaitis face, considering its negative social impact. The five liberal MPs stated in the explanatory memo attached to the proposal that the approval of this bill became necessary after hundreds of Kuwaitis were dismissed from their jobs in the private sector due to the global financial crisis.
The bill stipulates that the government should compensate Kuwaitis who lost their jobs in the public and private sectors, or grant financial aid to those who are looking for a job for the first time. The bill recommended establishment of a fund, which will be affiliated to the Public Authority for Social Security (PASS), to pay Kuwaitis who lost their jobs 60 percent of their previous salary until they find another job.
Meanwhile, MP Salem Al-Azmi has appealed to the authorities to take the necessary action against those who allowed a man to enter the Awatif Al-Athabi Al-Sabah Secondary School during the awarding ceremony for female students last week, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Warning that he and his colleagues will not remain silent over the issue as they are keen on protecting the religion and customs of Kuwait, Al-Azmi said the male relatives of the students were not allowed to enter the school as the ceremony was exclusive for females only. However, he was surprised when he found out that a man entered the school during the ceremony. He then stressed the need to punish those who allowed the man to enter the school.
