Death row Pakistani re-arrested No sentence against officer in inmate escape
KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals dismissed Tuesday a petition filed by a police officer at the Central Prison and upheld the verdict of a lower court, which had earlier refrained from passing a sentence against him when he was convicted of negligence.
The Public Prosecution has charged the officer and three petty officers with negligence for allowing a Pakistani, who had been sentenced to death, to escape from prison. The Pakistani was re-arrested.
During interrogations, the officer denied the charge, claiming the inmate escaped due to the slackness of the guards outside the jail.
Police investigations later affirmed that the inmate managed to escape because of the carelessness of the guards.
The Court of First Instance has refrained from passing a sentence on the four officers.
The court also sentenced the Pakistani inmate to an additional one year in jail, but the officer appealed the ruling.
However, the Court of Appeals dismissed his petition.
The session was presided over by Judge Faisal Al-Heraiti.
