EPA mulls 10-point strategy to protect habitat, cut pollution Plan forwarded to Higher Council for Planning

KUWAIT CITY, April 10: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has come up with a 10-point strategy to protect the environment, reduce pollution and minimize its effects on people, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The plan, which was forwarded to the Higher Council for Planning, includes the following:
First: Establish an organization to protect environment and to guarantee the continuity of natural resources and minimize the level of pollution.
 Second: Issue a comprehensive law for environment protection and oblige all economic establishments to conduct studies on environment, in addition to granting environment inspectors the legal right to arrest.
Third: Meet the permissible levels of pollution on land, air and water and enable Kuwait comply with international environment requirements.
Fourth: Ensure that the quality of air is pure, minimize health hazards and limit stationary and moving sources of pollution.
Fifth: Protect marine environment, help in its rehabilitation and protect endangered species by minimizing ecological risks.
Sixth: Protect land, reduce the phenomenon of desertification and increase surveillance by coordinating with other authorities.
Seventh: Set up appropriate means to handle environment pollution in all areas of the country, legislate laws to protect environment from pollution and minimize its levels.
Eighth: Encourage the establishment of natural reserves to provide a natural habitat to numerous kinds of animals and rare plants, besides adopting scientific methods to help them grow.
Ninth: Develop safe systems to dispose solid, liquid and gaseous waste and ensure that the system causes less pollution than the traditional methods. Encourage the generation of income by recycling waste, besides protecting the environment from hazardous waste.
Tenth: Encourage recycling operations by providing scientific information to investors and encourage them to adopt latest innovations in this regard.
