Pharmacies must stick to reduced medicine prices Make all drugs available at clinics
KUWAIT CITY, April 7: Controller of the National Assembly MP Dr Mohammad Al-Duwailah has called for strict monitoring of the prices of medicine sold in pharmacies across the country, reports Al-Anba daily.
Al-Duwailah commended the action by Minister of Health Dr Hilal Al-Sayer to offer 50 percent discount on all drugs sold in the pharmacies, saying the goodwill initiative adopted by the ministry is in support of citizens.
He indicated the focus should be on pharmacies which do not stick to the standardized price in the region, while recommending a joint importation of medicine among the Gulf countries. He noted the move will end monopoly, and contribute in reducing the prices of medicine at the private pharmacies.
Al-Huwailah urged Al-Sayer to make the majority of drugs available in pharmacies at the government hospitals and clinics to help patients escape the soaring prices of medicine in private pharmacies, stressing the concerned authority must compel the pharmacies to reduce the price of medicine to merge with the regional price. He saw the need for strict monitoring and control of the price of medicine.
Meanwhile, MP Dr Hassan Jowhar blames the Minister of Commerce and Industry for failing to answer parliamentary questions over the preliminary elections at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He stressed the minister will be subjected to political questioning and held accountable, if he continuously decline to answer the questions.

KUWAIT CITY: Some health department heads are allegedly planning not to give excellent performance incentives to a number of doctors this year even if they have obtained excellent ratings under the pretext that they received the same privilege last year, reports Al-Dar daily quoting sources.
On the other hand, Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Abdulfattah Al-Samawi denied these allegations as it is not possible to deprive doctors of this privilege for the reason mentioned above. He affirmed all those who meet the conditions will receive the incentive. He said the Financial Affairs Department is waiting for the Ministry of Finance to approve the proposed budget for this purpose, which is estimated at KD5 million. “Once we receive the approval, we will submit the list of beneficiaries to start the payment immediately,” he asserted.
He added the department will meet with representatives of the Ministry of Finance on Thursday to discuss ways to overcome the obstacles that the two ministries are currently facing.
