Two arrested for rape Customs foil bid to smuggle in KD 100,000 worth foreign liquor
KUWAIT CITY, March 26: Customs officials at Shuwaikh Port foiled an attempt to smuggle 2,000 bottles of imported liquor from a GCC country. The bottles were hidden in cement structures and are estimated to be worth more than KD 100,000 in the black market.
Sources say the Customs inspectors got suspicious of the cargo and on checking, found the bottles hidden inside. Securitymen then arrested the two expatriates who came to collect the cargo and an officer who first released it.
A similar attempt was foiled last week at the port.
Police arrest wanted citizens: Se-curitymen arrested three Kuwaitis, who were wanted by law, in Sabahiya area on Thursday.
Sources say patrols on routine duty noticed a vehicle going beyond the speed limit, chased it and asked the driver to pull over. Patrols noticed the nervousness of all three occupants and on checking their details, found that they were wanted in criminal cases.
The trio was referred to authorities.
Four injured in public brawl: Four persons sustained injuries and additional fractures in a public brawl among nine persons, which involved sharp objects and sticks, inside a popular shopping mall in Salmiya Thursday.
Security operatives at the Operations Room acted promptly immediately after they received a distress call about the episode. Upon arrival, security officers arrested three members of the feuding party, whereas the others managed to flee, when they sighted the officers. Paramedics rushed the injured people to Amiri Hospital for treatment, and the case was registered for investigation.
6 saloon workers in fight: Two Syr-ians and four Turkish nationals engaged in fist fight inside the men’s saloon they work at Farwaniya, resulting in injuries to a Turkish and two Syrian expatriates.
The Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received a report about the fight, while paramedics rushed to the location without delay, and the injured persons were given first aid treatment. The rest of the fighters were taken into custody, and they have since been referred to the concerned authority.
Woman injured in fall: A Sri Lankan woman fell from the first floor of a building in Fintas Thursday. Security operatives and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after they received a call in the regard. The woman sustained injuries and major fractures to the left leg. Paramedics carried her to Adan Hospital for medical attention.
Citizen threatens ex-wife: An inebriated Kuwaiti in his 30s broke into the flat of his former wife in Salmiya Thursday and beat her. He also allegedly insulted and threatened her. On hearing the woman’s loud cries, a neighbor called the Operations Room which promptly sent securitymen to the scene. The accused, however, escaped before the arrival of securitymen.
The woman is said to have suffered several injuries.
Investigations are going on and securitymen will summon the suspect for interrogations.
Two arrested for rape: The Salmiya police have arrested two Kuwaitis — one of them working for the Ministry of Interior — for kidnapping and raping two young women, reports Al-Anba daily.
The arrest came when a Bedoun woman called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior to complain that the men kidnapped her and her Lebanese friend, took them to an apartment in Salmiya and raped them.
However, the women are being interrogated by police to know the circumstances that led to them being kidnapped and raped.
Four public transport buses destroyed in fire : Firefighters extinguished a fire that engulfed four buses belonging to a certain public transport company in Sulaibiya Industrial Area at dawn Friday. There were no casualties.
Fire sources said the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received a distress call about the incident, while firefighters from Sulaibiya were dispatched to the scene. They managed to douse the inferno. Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, the Fire Services Department has stated the importance of putting fire extinguishers at vantage points, which could be handy during fire eruption.
Agencies add: No fire incident reported at any of the buses belonging to the Kuwait Public Transport Company (KPTC), Director of Human Resources and Public Relations Department at the KPTC Salah Al-Rabah said here Friday.
Rabah said in a statement to KUNA today that “we became certain that no fire flared up after checking all the 82 sites of the KPTC.” He also pointed out that the KPTC applies all security and safety measures in all its sites that work all around the clock.
The KPTC is a state-owned company which was set up by the government and it is one of the pioneering means of mass transportation in Kuwait which was set up according to an Amiri decree in 1962 and aims at offering best services for citizens and residents alike.
