Bogus rep of Sheikh cheats, robs thousands from ‘iqama’-hit expats

KUWAIT CITY, March 24: A Kuwaiti citizen who claimed to be representative of one Sheikh and managed to cheat several expatriates by offering to help them transfer their residencies, and settle difficult issues they were facing was arrested by police after he cheated an Egyptian expatriate of KD 30,000, and forced the man to sell his mobile number to him for KD 10,000.
According to the Egyptian, the Kuwaiti threatened to kill him or have him deported, if he refused to comply with his proposal. Later, the Egyptian went ahead and filed a case against the suspect in Nugra police station, and he was arrested without delay. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. He also led police to his residence, where an old archive was found.
In the meantime, the Sheikh, whom the suspect claimed to work for, denied ever knowing him, and seven cases were registered against him.

Prisoners assault inmate:  An inm-ate at the Central Prison sustained severe injuries and fractures as he was physically attacked by fellow inmates inside the prison cell. Security personnel at the prison acted promptly, immediately they received information about the episode and rescued the victim from his peers. The man was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of Farwaniya Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The officers have registered the case for comprehensive investigation.

Angry man beats official: An em-ployee of Jahra Municipality lodged a complaint at Jahra Police Station against a Kuwaiti citizen who physically assaulted him while on official duty Tuesday.
The suspect reportedly stormed the Municipality in anger demanding to see the employee who issued a KD 500 citation against him. The complainant tried to explain to him he only acted officially, because the man violated work permit regulation, which attracted the fine.
The suspect thereafter descended on the victim through physical and verbal assaults.
Police have registered the case for investigation.

Juvenile bike thieves held: Police have arrested three juvenile expatriates for stealing motorbikes from a suburb of Nugra, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to reports police acting on complaints filed by residents of the area put the area under surveillance and caught one of the suspects in the act.
During interrogation he admitted to the charge and led police to his accomplices.
Two of the suspects are believed to have a history of criminal record. They have been referred to the authorities.

Inmate attempts suicide
: A 26-year-old Egyptian who was behind bars at a police station in Riqqa reportedly tried in vain to end his life by slitting his wrists, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
He has been admitted to a hospital. A case of suicide attempt has been registered against him.
