Two-year jail stays for Kuwait Army officer 16 hurt as firemen rescue 150 in Hawalli fire

KUWAIT CITY, March 21: The Court of Cassation Sunday dismissed a petition filed by a 42-year-old Kuwait Army first sergeant, identified only as Naif Q., who was convicted by a lower court of insulting HH the Amir.
The Criminal Court had earlier found the man guilty and sentenced him to two years imprisonment. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeals.
Case papers show the man while talking on the phone to an employee of an unidentified communications company had spoken badly about HH the Amir.
During interrogations the man denied the charge and said he was drunk at the time the complaint was registered against him. He also said one of his friends may have used his phone to talk to the company. The session was presided over by Judge Ahmad Al-Ajeel.


Furious camel bites man: A Kuwaiti man in his 50s was rushed to a hospital with blood dripping from his hand, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to reports the man is rearing camels and the man tried to separate two fighting camels.
One of the camels in a swift move reportedly let go of the other camel and attacked the Kuwaiti. The animal bit the man’s hand.

 

16 hurt as firemen rescue 150 in Hawalli fire : Sixteen people were injured in a fire that broke out in a third-floor flat of a building in Hawalli Sunday. Sources say nine of them had to be referred to Mubarak and Amiri hospitals while the remaining seven were given treatment on the spot.
Reportedly, residents of the building, which is located on Bin Khaldoun Street, were so terrified that some of them jumped out of the windows.
Sources say a total of 42 firefighters participated in the firefighting operation and divided themselves into two teams - one team doused the fire while the other rescued people trapped inside the building. Eventually, the fire was brought under control within an hour and nearly 150 residents were safely evacuated.
Sources praised the firefighters for their valiant efforts and for preventing the fire from spreading to other places.
A case was registered and investigations are going on to find the cause of the fire.
In a separate incident, three Asians and eight firefighters were asphyxiated when a fire broke out in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Saturday. Sources could not provide further details about this incident.
