GCC Olympic chiefs extol sports gains Kuwait official stresses meeting importance

KUWAIT CITY, March 19, (KUNA): Several Gulf sports officials commended on Friday the Gulf sports march and gains at regional and international levels.
Speaking to KUNA, they hoped that the 64th meeting of the executive bureau of GCC Olympic committees’ chiefs, which kick-started here earlier in the day, would come up with resolutions and recommendations that could lead to more sports development in the Gulf region.
They boasted that the Gulf region had recently witnessed a major development leap in all sports games.
Omani Olympic Committee Secretary General Hilal bin Ali Al-Sinani said sports meetings hosted by Kuwait always produce successful and fruitful results thanks to proper organizing arrangements.
The four-day GCC sports meetings are primarily intended to further promote and reinforce sports cooperation among the GCC member states, wishing that they could come up with resolutions that would serve Gulf youth and athletes.
Bahraini Olympic Committee Secretary General Sheikh Ahmad bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the agenda of the gathering features the holding of a Gulf camel racing event in Qatar.
He said his country would present during the 64th meeting a couple of files for hosting two key championships; one for beach games in October and the other for Gulf games in February.
The Bahraini sports official reiterated Gulf backing to Yemen’s unprecedented hosting of the 20th Gulf Football Cup championship in November, hailing Yemen’s current preparations and arrangements for the tournament.
Gulf sports meetings are always of paramount significance to Gulf youth and athletes, who look forward to keeping up with the latest world sports developments, he pointed out.
For his part, Secretary General of the Saudi Olympic Committee Rashid Hamad Al-Harioul spoke highly of the Gulf Olympic Committee’s efforts for supporting Gulf sports.
But, he called for providing all means of backing to the Gulf sports sector, which plays a key role in the protection of Gulf youth.
The Gulf sports movement should be attached more attention given successive sports developments and leaps at both administrative and technical levels, he added.
He pointed out that several Gulf sports figures would be honored during the meeting in recognition of their great role in the improvement and development of the Gulf sports movement.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Obeid al-Enezi underlined here Friday the significance of the 64th meeting.
Speaking to reporters, al-Enezi said recommendations would be referred to the 24th meeting of Gulf Olympic committees’ chiefs slated on Sunday.
