Focus on cell-phone users, speeding 407 killed in over 61,000 accidents recorded in 2009
KUWAIT CITY, March 19, (KUNA): The ministry of Interior will go ahead with its relentless efforts on protecting citizens against road accidents, director of the security media department and spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior Col Mohammad Al-Sabr has said Thursday.
Col, Al-Sabr asserted, in a lecture held at the faculty of arts and titled “Beware of Others’ Mistakes” as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) traffic week activities, that the risks of not being attentive during driving and the necessity of paying attention to the mistakes made by other road users.
He pointed out that non-commitment of some road users to the traffic code and manners along with road hogging, going through the red light, speeding, the use of mobile phone during driving or busying with any other matters than the road might lead to real disasters.
He also reviewed a number of statistics conducted in 2009 and 2010 on the number of traffic tickets and accidents and the victims including the killing of 407 people in 2009, 94 people early January in 2010 and more than 61,000 traffic accident occurring in 2009.
Al-Sabr touched on some real stories that clearly reflect the mistakes made by motorists as a result of lack of attention and busying themselves with other things than the road in what leads to the falling of victims.
On his part, first Lt Abdullah Bahman reviewed a number of traffic signs and pieces of advice that are important to the university undergradutes.
This lecture comes as part of the continuous efforts made by the Ministry of Interior in instiling the concepts of traffic awareness among the individuals in society in order to put an end to the bloodshed on roads as a result of the traffic accidents that lead to the falling of many road users.
