MP warns against transferring info-minister to dodge ‘motion’
KUWAIT CITY, March 18: MP Faisal Al-Muslim has warned the government against transferring Minister of Oil and Information Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for him to dodge the no-confidence motion slated for next week.
In a press statement Thursday, Al-Muslim stressed any attempt on the part of the government to avoid the motion is unacceptable, especially since the grilling session is over and the no-confidence motion has been submitted. He said 23 MPs support the motion, more than eight abstained, while others are still weighing their options before announcing their official stand on the issue.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary Health Committee has given the Ministry of Health (MoH) a three-month grace period to lay down an effective mechanism for the issuance of birth certificates to children of Bedouns without mentioning the nationality of the parents.
After the committee meeting Thursday which was attended by representatives from the ministry, Committee Chairman MP Dr Rola Dashti told reporters, “We will refer our report on the need to amend law number 36/1969 on the issuance of birth and death certificates to Bedouns to the Parliament.”

Dashti asserted the committee was keen on issuing birth certificates to children of Bedouns, so they can avail of health and educational services like their counterparts in other countries. She hopes the concerned authorities quickly address this issue without waiting for the Parliament to exercise its role in this direction.
In the meantime, activating the right of lawmakers to grill erring ministers will not affect the relatively calm situation in the political arena because the government proved its ability to face parliamentary interpellations when it triumphed over four inquests in one session, reports Annahar daily quoting Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Salah Al-Madhef.
Highlighting the development plan of the country in his recent press statement, Al-Madhef pointed out the plan seems to be promising as it includes ambitious projects but the government still lacks the ability to implement this efficiently. He admitted the plan is huge considering its exterior frame but, in essence, it is far from manpower development - the core of any national development plan.
Indicating that NDA has deep roots since 1821, Al-Madhef asserted the alliance played a vital role in granting women their political rights, approving the five-constituency electoral system and protecting public funds.
Reacting to MP Ali Al-Rashid’s claim that the alliance has been terminated, Al-Madhef stressed the MP has deviated from moderate principles for unknown reasons. He confirmed the alliance holds its general assembly irregularly with the participation of hundreds of people, including well-experienced individuals like Ahmad Al-Khateeb.
Al-Madhef added Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud is still a member of the alliance; hence, she can participate in elections within the group. He said the minister is among those who prepared the principal document of NDA.
