Egyptian lawyer stays away - Death step closer

KUWAIT CITY, March 16: The Court of Cassation Tuesday set April 20, 2010 to look in to the case of the so-called Hawalli Monster Hajjaj Mohamed Adel Al-Saadi to allow the defense attorney time to prepare and present his case.

The lower court has sentenced Saadi to death for kidnapping and molesting a small boy. The sentence has been upheld by the Court of Appeals.

The Arab Times has learnt the Egyptian lawyer Montasir Al-Zayyat, who is known as the Islamic Groups lawyer, had volunteered to defend Saadi on one condition — provided he is given air ticket and accommodation in Kuwait.

A reliable source told the Arab Times the family of the accused cannot afford either the ticket or the accommodation for Zayyat. “I think that’s why he did not come to defend the man,” the source added.
The Public Prosecution has charged Saadi with kidnapping and molesting a small boy. The accused reportedly told the victim he wanted to visit his friend in the adjacent building and sought the boy’s help to read the address and guide him to the apartment.

When the victim went out of his way to help the man, he reportedly took the boy to the roof of the building, threatened to stab him with a knife and molested him.

The session was presided over by Judge Ahmad Al-Ajeel.
