Manipulations exposed MEW pampering contractors

KUWAIT CITY, March 16:  The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has allegedly been pampering some contractors at the expense of the public treasury, contrary to claims of ministry officials that they protect public funds and clampdown on lavish spending for personal interests, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed some official documents and correspondences have exposed manipulations and concessions regarding the collection of fines imposed on certain companies that signed contracts with the ministry.  Sources said the issue is not about miscalculation of supposed outstanding amounts but compromises on huge money due to the State as per the stipulations of the contracts.
Sources cited as an example the Wafra water reservoir project and Umm Al-Naqa pure water filling station with miscalculated fines of KD390,000 and KD38,000 respectively.  Sources asserted the water facilities project director has received an official notification about the incident.  Fine for delays concerning four water reservoirs in Wafra amounted to KD513,123 but the relevant official demanded only KD123,106 from the company so the government lost KD390,000 in this project alone, sources added.
