US must curb Israeli excess
HOW long will the US tolerate insults from Tel Aviv without any corresponding action, while accepting flimsy excuses after the flow of blood in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and at the same time continue to press Arabs for self-restraint and concessions? Has the anointed child (Israel) become crazy that she acts without constraint or penalty, and gets whatever she wants under the care of her ‘big brother’?
The Arabs did not leave any stone unturned to please the US regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. They have pursued peace to the extreme without seeing the least possible result. On the contrary, their citizens have always been accused of terrorism under intense political provocation, while the US or the international community has never seen anything wrong in the terrorist acts that Israel carries out regularly.
Despite the painful experiences of the Arabs, they have continued to knock on doors, respond to requests of the international community, and give Israel an opportunity for indirect dialogue for several months before proposing the announcement of the Palestinian state. Genocide and massacres have escalated tensions, especially since the Zionists publicly announced endless execution of crazy ideas. They have indicated non-preference for peace, as manifested in the announcement of further settlement constructions when they received US Vice President Joe Biden. Another aspect of this action is the construction of a synagogue close to Al-Aqsa Mosque and Qubah Al-Sakhra (Al-Sakhra Dome) or through reactivation of the ancient law for purchase of occupied East Quds and Golan territories by some of the holders of Israeli citizenship. They have been using appalling language, which seems to be fear of the Zionists’ anger. This has become an unacceptable flattery to the Arabs because it is at the expense of Arab blood and further occupation of Palestinian territories, especially Al-Quds. All these activities have turned the dialogues and peaceful resolutions into a mirage.
If Israel claims to be facing political problems that prevent her from declaring her true position; thereby, pushing her to opt for ruthless alternatives, Arab nations have graver political problems. Blocs and factions that oppose dialogues are under threat, not to mention the economic constraints they have been grappling with for several years. This is in addition to clear Iranian exploitation of the lapses to propagate the so-called Tehran project. We all know the strategic objectives of this project. The escalation has given Iran more chances to carry out destructive and terrorist activities in the region, as well as inciting some citizens against their governments.
It is pertinent for the US and the international community to take decisive steps in order to control the excesses of Israel. This is necessary before the third Palestinian uprising, which will be more drastic than the previous ones, which occurred within the 62 years of occupation, because the current situation in Palestine is quite different from the 1980s and 1990s. This upheaval will be catastrophic enough to consume the entire region, which might transform the Afghanistan issue into a child’s game.
Will the US and the international community - for once throughout the Arab-Israeli conflict - deal with the killing of Palestinians in Al-Quds by focusing on reality without the shameful dark look of Israel? Will the international community reveal the real source of upheaval in the region? Do they want the region to remain under the blind terrorist activities of Israel without any control or do they really want the region to have peace?
The US is facing historical reality; hence the need to take decisive steps and move towards international resolutions without waiting for change in the position of Israel. It should strictly enforce the resolution on Israel, according to its description as peacemaker in the region, to avoid reaching a stage where it will be useless to cry over spilt milk.
