From Iraq to Kuwait on a truck; suspect details drug-running op

KUWAIT CITY, March 15:  Anti-narcotics officers have arrested a Bedoun for trading in drugs in Jahra.
After receiving information about the smuggling of an undisclosed quantity of drugs to Kuwait, Director General of Drug Control General Department (DCGD) Brigadier Ahmad Al-Khalifa formed a team of securitymen to verify the report.
According to the informant, a heavy vehicle driven by a Pakistani would transport the drugs to Kuwait. Acting on this information, the securitymen put the driver and his vehicle, which was parked in Jahra, under surveillance for 24 hours.
During the operation, police saw two youths walking around the vehicle. After some time, one of them opened the truck and took the drugs, which were hidden in a secluded part of the vehicle. Securitymen approached the vehicle and arrested the youth, but his companion managed to escape from the scene.
Initial investigations revealed the youth is a Bedoun, who admitted the crime and told police that he purchased the drugs from Iraqi traders.
Asked about their modus operandi, the suspect revealed he sends bank drafts to his suppliers who usually give him a detailed description of the vehicles where they hide the drugs.  He said the suppliers wait until the drivers fall asleep before putting the drugs in the concealed parts of the trucks.  Once the vehicles pass through the borders, the Iraqi traders call their contacts in Kuwait to provide information about the trucks.
Security sources disclosed there were 10 kilos of drugs hidden in the vehicle - the Bedoun took three kilos while his companion got seven kilos.  Investigations are still ongoing for the arrest of the Bedoun’s companion and to determine if the Pakistani driver is involved in this crime.
