‘No confidence motion will attract only 19 lawmakers’ Info minister ready to face grilling
KUWAIT CITY, March 12: Only 19 lawmakers are in support of a no-confidence motion against Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah until now and sources say the Cabinet is happy with the numbers, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Speaking on the subject, Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, State Minister for Housing and Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd said the Information Minister is ready to face the grilling inquest.
Meanwhile, members of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs are at loggerheads over Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled’s statement on General Investigations Department during the committee’s last meeting. Chairman of the committee MP Hussein Al-Huraiti says the minister did not make any controversial statement and that he, as head of the committee, went through the minutes of the meeting and found nothing objectionable. Committee member MP Khaled Al-Tahous, however, refuted Al-Huraiti’s claim and said the “corruption in the Investigations Department is like a drama.”
Meanwhile MPs Rola Dashti and Maasouma Al-Mubarak have criticized those who are against women participating in sports competitions, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Speaking to members of the Kuwaiti women football team recently, Dashti urged the team members to continue playing and enjoy the competition as winning is not important at this point. “Kuwaiti women have greatly contributed in building the nation and they will continue doing so. Those who do not want women to participate in sports competitions should go to Afghanistan. We will not allow anyone to impose his/her ideas on us. Kuwait is a civilian state and whoever tries to change it will eventually call for amending the Constitution which we have sworn to protect,” she asserted.
On the other hand, Al-Mubarak claimed some parties have been trying to impede the progress of women. “We will not tolerate any attempt to obstruct the development of women, who have been engaged in different sports activities for many years. I was the star player of our squash team when I was young and at the time nobody prevented us from engaging in sports,” she added.
